Leasing Responsibly

As a tenant on Hangar Direct, you play an important role in keeping the hangar environment safe and well-managed. This guide covers your key responsibilities and how to use the platform to stay compliant and organized throughout your lease.

Understand Your Lease Terms

Before finalizing any booking, take the time to understand the terms:

  • Read the listing details carefully, including any restrictions on operating hours, fueling, aircraft types, or shared use.
  • Review the cancellation policy selected by the hangar owner. Cancellation terms vary, and service fees are non-refundable.
  • Ask the owner about any rules that are not covered in the listing, such as after-hours access, guest policies, or maintenance procedures.
  • Confirm that the hangar dimensions will actually accommodate your aircraft. Use the Aircraft Footprint Calculator if you are unsure.

Keep Your Insurance Current

Hangar Direct requires aircraft owners to provide proof of insurance upon request. Keeping your documentation current protects you, the hangar owner, and other tenants.

  • Upload your insurance certificate directly to your profile through the tenant portal.
  • The platform uses OCR to automatically extract policy numbers, coverage types, and expiration dates from uploaded documents.
  • Your profile will show clear status indicators: valid, expiring soon, or expired.
  • You will receive automated reminders before your insurance or documents expire, giving you time to renew before any lapse.

Recommended coverage includes liability insurance and hull insurance. Consult with an aviation insurance professional to determine the right coverage for your situation.

Safety Basics

Whether you are staying for a night or a year, follow these safety practices:

  • Know the emergency exits and evacuation routes. Familiarize yourself with their locations when you first access the hangar.
  • Locate fire extinguishers and first aid kits. Report any missing or damaged safety equipment to the owner immediately.
  • Follow fueling procedures specific to the hangar, including the location of fueling stations and emergency shut-off valves. Report any spills or leaks immediately.
  • Respect the no-smoking policy enforced in all hangar spaces.
  • Use electrical equipment responsibly. Do not overload circuits, and report any malfunctioning equipment to the owner.
  • Handle aircraft carefully and follow any guidelines the owner provides about movement, positioning, and equipment use within the hangar.

Use the Tenant Portal

Your Hangar Direct account gives you a central place to manage your lease:

  • View all active, past, and pending reservations.
  • Upload and update insurance documents and other required paperwork.
  • Update your aircraft details or contact information when anything changes.
  • See your lease status and respond to any compliance items that need attention.
  • Communicate with hangar owners through built-in messaging, keeping everything documented on the platform.

Communicate and Report Issues

Clear communication makes for a better experience on both sides:

  • Let the owner know your arrival plans so they can prepare the hangar and coordinate any additional services (fueling, towing, or line services).
  • Report safety concerns or damage immediately to the hangar owner. Do not wait until checkout.
  • Notify the owner of any changes to your schedule, aircraft, or contact information.
  • Use the platform messaging system for all communication. This keeps a clear record in case any questions arise later.

Your Responsibilities

As a tenant, you are responsible for ensuring your aircraft operations comply with all FAA regulations, local requirements, and the specific rules of the hangar you are leasing. Keep your insurance current, provide accurate information, and treat the space with respect.
