Joining a Hangar Waitlist
Hangar space is scarce at many airports, and many facilities on Hangar Direct run a waitlist. This article covers joining a waitlist, checking your position, and responding when a hangar may be opening up.
Joining from an airport page
Facilities that run a waitlist have a Join the waitlist button on their public airport page on hangardirect.com. Click it and confirm your email with a one-time code. You do not need a Hangar Direct account to get in line.
Your position is based on the facility's ordering rules, and the position number you see is the same number the operator sees.
Checking your position
Once you're on a waitlist, you can check where you stand in two places:
- In your account: the facility's Overview tab shows a Waitlist card with your position as "N of M in line". If you have multiple facilities, your dashboard's My Facilities grid also badges each one with your waitlist position.
- On the public status page: you can check your position without signing in.
Waitlist updates also appear on your dashboard's Action needed card.
Responding when a hangar may be opening up
When the operator has a potential opening, they can notify you with a "a hangar may be opening up" email. The email contains a single-use response link, valid for 30 days, where you can:
- Confirm you're still interested in the space
- Upload any documents the operator has requested
Respond promptly. Confirming your interest tells the operator to keep you in consideration for the space. If the link expires or you have questions, reach out to the facility directly.
Uploading documents at the waitlist stage
Some operators collect documents, such as proof of insurance, while you're still on the waitlist so a lease can move quickly when space opens up. If the facility requests documents at the waitlist stage, you can upload them through your notification response link, and they'll appear alongside your other requirements on the facility's Compliance tab in your account.
Uploading documents early means less back-and-forth when it's your turn.
From waitlist to lease
When it's your turn and the operator offers you the space, they create a lease for you. It shows up in your account under Leases and on the facility's Lease tab, ready for you to review, sign, and pay. From there, follow the lease activation steps:
- Review and sign (or accept) the lease
- Upload any remaining compliance documents
- Complete payment and set up autopay
While you wait, you can keep searching: send inquiries to other facilities and set up Hangar Alerts to get an email when a matching hangar is listed.
