Getting Started as a Hangar Owner
Hangar Direct pairs a public marketplace, where pilots find space and send inquiries, with an operator platform where you manage locations, hangars, leases, tenants, and payouts. This guide walks you through setting up as an owner, from registering your organization to receiving your first payout.
Listing on the marketplace is free and unlimited on every plan. You pay only for optional subscription features and payout processing.
Register your organization
Everything starts on the operator platform at platform.hangardirect.com. On the Register your organization page you'll enter your Business Type, Company Type, Business Name (or First/Last name if you're an individual), Business Email/Phone, Website, and Business Address.
Hangar Direct is organized as Organization → Location(s) → Hangars/Tie-downs → Leases/Waitlist. Your organization is the top-level account; each physical site you operate is a location under it.
After registering, your dashboard shows a "Welcome" card with Add a location and Add a hangar buttons, plus two info cards, Get marketplace leads and Manage your tenants, that link to the two sides of the product.
Add your first location
In the sidebar, go to Locations and click Add New Location. You'll choose between two location types:
- At one airport or field: an operating location. You outline the site boundary on a map and fill in Physical Address, Facility Name, State, Zip, and Airport Identifier. Add one per airport.
- At their own separate addresses: a standalone location with no map. It needs only a Location Name, State, and an optional Zip.
Individual-type organizations use standalone locations only. Most day-to-day work (hangars, leases, waitlist, compliance) happens inside a location, while organization-level pages roll up across all your locations.
Add hangars and list them on the marketplace
Inside a location, open Hangars and click Add hangar. You can add One listing (a hangar or a Tie Down Space) or A row of T-Hangars, which generates a whole row from satellite imagery. The flow covers the map boundary, title and description, dimensions (including door width and height, which pilots' aircraft are matched against), pricing, amenities, photos, and check-in instructions.
Near the end you'll be asked "List Your Hangar on the Marketplace?" Listing is free and unlimited on every plan. Each hangar carries a marketplace status pill of Listed, Not listed, or In review; new listings and edits to live listings go through a review pipeline, and the live listing stays up while edits are reviewed.
Receive leads and inquiries
Hangar Direct is an inquiry marketplace: pilots browse your listing and click Send Inquiry. There are no instant reservations to approve or decline. Every inquiry lands in your Leads page as a conversation you control.
On a lead you can Message the pilot, Add to waitlist if nothing is open, Create Lease (pre-filled from the lead), or Close Lead. There are two lead types: rental inquiries and sale inquiries. If you want more exposure, the Get More Leads button starts the Lead Booster wizard.
Leases, tenants, and compliance
Converting an inquiry into a tenancy happens under Leases. Click Create Lease to build an agreement from a template (or upload your own PDF), send it for e-signature where required, and track rent, deposits, and fees under Payments. Tenants are added automatically from leases and the waitlist and appear on your Tenants page.
You can also configure insurance and document requirements per location; gaps and expiring documents are flagged in-app for both you and the tenant on the Compliance dashboard.
Get paid: Wallet, Stripe Connect, and payouts
Tenant payments accumulate in your Wallet: funds hold during the rental cycle, become available, and you then request a payout. Payout setup runs through Stripe Connect. The Connect health card on your payouts pages walks you through Set up payouts via hosted Stripe onboarding.
Every payout request is reviewed and approved by HangarDirect staff (1-2 business days), and bank transfers arrive in 1-2 days after that. Instant debit-card payouts are available for a 1.5% fee. Payout fees depend on your plan: 1% (minimum $2) on Free, 0.25% + $0.25 on Premium and Enterprise.
Subscription plans
Marketplace listing is always free and unlimited. Subscription plans change what you can manage on the platform:
- Free: payment collection, messaging, lease templates, unlimited listings, 1 e-sign credit per month, up to 3 long-term leases, 1% payout fee (min $2).
- Premium: up to 5 concurrent long-term leases, 5 e-sign credits per month, 0.25% + $0.25 payout fee. A 14-day trial is available.
- Fleet/Enterprise: unlimited leases, sales-led.
Extra e-signature credits are $1 each à la carte. Manage all of this under Settings → Billing & Payments.
Your responsibilities as an owner
You remain responsible for the space you offer: keep your listing photos, dimensions, and pricing accurate; maintain your facility in safe, usable condition; carry appropriate insurance for your operation; and honor the terms of the leases you sign. Set clear property rules and check-in instructions on each listing so tenants know what to expect.
