Getting Started as a Hangar Owner
Welcome to Hangar Direct. Whether you manage a single private hangar or oversee an entire airport or FBO operation, this guide walks you through everything you need to know to list your space, manage tenants, and get the most out of the platform.
1 - Create Your Account and Profile
Visit hangardirect.com and click Get Started to create your free account. You can register with your email or use Google or Facebook for faster setup. Once your account is created, complete your profile with accurate contact information and a brief description of your operation. A complete profile builds trust with prospective tenants and helps Hangar Direct match you with the right renters.
2 - Connect Your Payout Account
Before you can receive payments, you will need to connect a payout account through Stripe. From your account dashboard, click the Payments & Payouts card, then select the Payouts tab to connect your payout account through Stripe. You can link an existing Stripe account or create a new one in just a few steps. Payouts are typically available five business days after a reservation check-out date.
3 - List Your Hangar
Listing a hangar is free and takes about five minutes. You will need at least five photos and the following details:
- Location: Airport identifier and address.
- Dimensions: Length, width, and door height. These are critical for pilots filtering by aircraft size.
- Availability: Nightly, monthly, or for sale. You can offer multiple lease types on the same listing.
- Pricing: You set your own rates. Hangar Direct charges a 3% service fee on rental payouts. Listing a hangar for sale is always free.
- Amenities and details: Security features, climate control, electrical hookups, restrooms, fuel access, or any other features worth highlighting.
Be specific and transparent. Listings with accurate dimensions, clear photos, and detailed descriptions attract more inquiries and close faster.
4 - Promote Your Listing
Every listing gets standard visibility in search results. To reach more pilots faster, you can add a promotion package:
- Bronze ($20/month): Homepage placement 1 week per month. Up to 35x more exposure.
- Silver ($50/month): Homepage placement 2 weeks per month, plus social media ads and professional marketing. Up to 80x more exposure.
- Gold ($100/month): Homepage placement 3 weeks per month, plus social media ads and professional marketing. Up to 200x more exposure.
- Platinum ($250/month): Daily homepage placement, social media ads, and professional marketing. Up to 600x more exposure.
- Diamond ($500/month): Daily homepage placement, social media ads, and professional marketing. Up to 1,500x more exposure.
5 - Manage Bookings and Communication
When a pilot requests a booking, you will receive a notification. Review the request, confirm or decline, and use the built-in messaging system to coordinate details like arrival times, access instructions, and any special requirements.
Keep your calendar up to date to avoid double bookings. If you list your hangar on other platforms, make sure availability stays in sync. Respond to inquiries promptly; fast responses build your reputation and help secure bookings.
6 - Compliance and Tenant Management (For Airports and FBOs)
If you manage multiple hangars or tenants, Hangar Direct offers a full compliance and management platform that goes well beyond the marketplace:
- Compliance dashboard: Track every tenant's insurance status, document expirations, and lease standing in real time. Everything is color-coded and filterable.
- Automated reminders: The system sends reminders to tenants before their insurance or documents expire, so your team does not have to chase paperwork.
- Tenant self-service portal: Tenants upload documents themselves. OCR technology automatically extracts key details from uploaded certificates.
- Lease management: Manage short-term, long-term, and ground leases. Track payments and export reports for board meetings or FAA audits.
- Waitlist management: When your hangars are full, maintain a documented waitlist and notify pilots automatically when space opens up.
- Multi-location support: Manage multiple airports or FBOs from one account with role-based permissions.
